Web Developers See Growth as Companies Expand Online

As Web sites become a more integral part of doing business, local Internet strategy firms are seeing a boost in their business along with increased competition.

A growing number of companies and organizations are re-evaluating their Internet presence and, oftentimes, overhauling their Web sites with the goal of increasing exposure and ultimately the bottom line.

Technology is driving many of these changes, but so is the reality that the first impression many people get of a business or service is its Web site.

As companies strive to put their best face forward on the Internet, Web developers and Internet marketing specialists are busy with a growing number of clients looking for help.

"There's a lot more competition between interactive agencies because there is more money being put into this type of work," said Andy Richter, managing partner of Tempe-based Terralever.

As the Internet becomes entrenched in daily life, more companies are realizing how critical it is to have not just a Web site, but a state-of-the-art Web presence.

"Without a doubt, more companies are reinventing themselves online," said Michael Goldfarb, managing member of Contact Designs in Scottsdale. "More people are discovering all that is possible."

Contact Designs specializes in back-end Web solutions that help companies do business online.

"Some companies are hesitant, because maybe they've been doing it one way for 15 years," he said. "But we're not trying to change things, as much as enhance what you can do online."

Keith Mishkin, president of Phoenix-based Cambridge Properties, made the decision to overhaul his company's Web site and used Terralever for the project.

He said it was critical for his company, which specializes in high-end urban living developments, to have a site that was a resource.

"We wanted to educate the market on all the urban-living options out there," he said. "A big part of that was capturing the urban-living searches online."

Terralever's Richter said knowing the ins and outs of how search engines work is critical for moving people toward a Web site.

"Two or three years ago, search was not as important as it is today," he said.
